Content Management - control your site using Umbraco, Contentment or another CMS
We love the web are content management system (CMS) specialists. This is software that allows you to edit and extend your website without needing to know anything about code.
We have long experience in content management, having worked on sites that serve in excess of 30 million pages a week: our team includes people from the team that built Yahoo! music's CMS. Even if your requirements are more modest, it's good to know that we bring that depth of experience to your website.
Content Management Systems
Over the years we've worked with a lot of different CMS and different programs have different strengths. We'll talk you through the options and find the best one for your needs and budget.
We use a handful of systems all the time, but we have experience with all the following systems: Microsoft CMS, Sharepoint, AxCMS, CuyaHoga, Wordpress, Joomla, DotNetNuke, Drupal, modx, Kentico CMS desk, Media Surface and, well, if the CMS you use isn't in this list we've probably still worked with it. Anyone remember Vignette, or Asset House? We do.
We're standardising around Umbraco for most jobs though. It's a very solid base to build from and has lots of great developers actively working on it. Umbraco powers some very high-profile sites including Wired UK and the Heinz corporate site.
Basic stuff
- Manage your own site - create new pages, sections, add news, press releases and so on.
No coding required.
Slightly more advanced, but still fairly basic
- Publish media - Upload Text, Images, Video, Flash, PDFs, Office documents, Sound, Adverts, event details (and other date based content), in fact it handles practically anything.
- Protect content - Based on who’s looking, for example:
- Require registration to view some content
- Multi-lingual - Multiple-language variations of content.
- Publish into flash movies - manage rich-media content.
- Advertising - Upload and manage advertising.
- Template based - For quick start-up and extension. If you want, you or your design team can design the templates so they look how you want them to look (or we can design it for you).
- Organise content - Charts, lists of featured items/products, promotions etc.
- Structure the site - manage content by site section and subject category.
- Approval system - For copy-editing workflow.
- Everything is configurable.
- Real pages - Writes real pages with titles you control: it's better than long addresses full of gobbledegook and numbers
- Best practice - We build in line with best practise as recommended by Google.
- Integrated email manager - Keep your customers up to date with regular newsletters or marketing communications from a built-in email subscription manager.
- User-generated content - Flexible user privileges model to incorporate user-generated content such as personal pages, forums or reviews and regulated access to subscriber-only content.
Advanced
- Systems integration - pull information from other systems. Over the years, we've integrated CMS with all sorts of outside information sources, like taking the live sales data from an estate agency chain, passing it over to Google maps, through a postcode lookup service and combining that with information in the site to provide a sales recommendation service for homebuyers covering around 10,000 properties. We've integrated with Sharepoint systems containing over 1 million technical articles, building the permissions engine that determines who can see what. We've... well, you probably get the picture. If you have specialised CMS needs, we can provide a system that fulfills them.
