eProcurement system for Charles Birch Group
The client: Charles Birch Group
The Charles Birch group is probably the largest supplier of hardware in the country. It supplies a network of hundreds of hardware shops, heel bars and key cutters with the tools of their trade. These customers keep several warehouses continually occupied in sending a constant stream of stock to all corners of the UK.

We love the web delivered a website that allows their wholesale customers to log on and order their stock. So far, so boringly normal. The fun part was integrating the website with the venerable green-screen Alpha mainframe running ordering and stock control for the national warehouse system.
- The system updates stock level and availability from approximately 50,000 stock lines and synchronises this information between the various warehouses and website.
- Website orders arrive from the network of shops nationwide and are allocated to a warehouse, then pushed into the delivery schedule for next-day delivery.
- Pricing rules for each customer (credit terms, discounts and price breaks per stock line and so forth) are all imported and displayed to the users on the website. There are rules in place to allocate and display discounts on a per stock line basis that are faithfully reflected between online and offline systems.
